A new feature has been added to Instagram and made available to all users. The original version of this feature was only accessible by users with a Business Profile, and was a switch on/switch off option with a default list of “words or phrases often reported as offensive” by the Instagram community.

This new and improved version of the comment moderation tool allows any user to add keywords specific to them, causing any comment on any post including that keyword to be hidden from the user’s account.

“[…] We’re taking the next step to ensure Instagram remains a positive place to express yourself. […] Now, when you tap the gear icon on your profile, you’ll find a new Comments tool. This feature lets you list words you consider offensive or inappropriate. Comments with these words will be hidden from your posts. You can choose your own list of words or use default words we’ve provided. This is in addition to the tools we’ve already developed such as swiping to delete comments, reporting inappropriate comments and blocking accounts.”
