Hundreds of millions of Instagram users will wake up to a whole new look on their apps today, as Instagram has finally gone all in and changed its style dramatically.

A different logo, a new design…

Instagram announced earlier:

“Today we’re introducing a new look. You’ll see an updated icon and app design for Instagram. Inspired by the previous app icon, the new one represents a simpler camera and the rainbow lives on in gradient form. You’ll also see updated icons for our other creative apps: Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse.

We’ve made improvements to how the Instagram app looks on the inside as well. The simpler design puts more focus on your photos and videos without changing how you navigate the app.”

Changes in the app…

First Feedback…

The general consensus is that this is a BIG change! A change that will take some getting used to.

To tell you the truth, in our office, the first reaction was a kind of stunned silence at the sight of the new logo – we knew design changes were coming, but we just weren’t expecting this! Where has our good old retro style camera gone?

Comments on Instagram’s announcement video posted to their page have proved pretty much unanimous so far.

Change is good!

After having calmed down a bit, we’re actually really quite pleased with the fresh, clean design, and the logo really stands out and emulates the beauty of colour and photography – which is what Instagram is all about! – Even if the sudden change was a bold move.

We would love to have your opinion on the new look: Is it too big a change? Or are you just loving the update?! Let us know in the comments below!

Update:

After asking our Instagram community what they thought of the new look, we have collected these results:
