Try carousel posts
Carousel posts, also known as albums and slideshows, are the newest format to arrive on the Instagram app. A carousel allows you to include up to 10 photos and videos in a single Instagram post. Your followers can then flick through your carousel by swiping from right to left, just like turning the pages of a book! This is a simple yet very effective way of sprucing up your Instagram account.
As an added bonus, there is some evidence that the Instagram algorithm could boost the visibility of carousel posts: so you really have nothing to lose! Clayton and Crume created this wonderfully effective carousel to show off some of their products on Instagram.

Play around with Boomerangs
Boomerangs are such a fun and engaging content format. You may be thinking “sure, it’s fun… but it’s not exactly professional looking content, is it?” – well actually we beg to differ! The Body Shop makes an absolutely fantastic job of using Boomerangs to create spectacular Instagram posts.

There are different types of video you can use on Instagram to attract your followers’ attention. GIF style videos can be created by blending individual photos together into a short, fast paced video. The final effect resembles a GIF clip, which is an engaging and current format. Video has also proven to be the most effective content type for attracting millennials!

Longer videos (up to 60 seconds) can also be used on Instagram to depict tutorials or product demonstrations for example. Here’s a great video from Forever21 to inspire you!
Mix up sizes and shapes
We all know the Instagram was originally all about the square. Photos and videos were automatically cropped to the square format before they could be uploaded to Instagram. However, the square, although still a very popular option, is no longer an obligation on Instagram. Now that landscape and portrait rectangular posts are authorized on the platform, why not mix up your formats by uploading different shapes and sizes of posts?
You can also play around with white borders which can even allow you to create the effect of any shape photo – even a circle for example! For this, we’d recommend using frames on Canva.

Harmonize and Stylize
Fashion bloggers are really great at creating Instagram “themes” which harmonize their Instagram accounts and make their posts eye-catching, while still remaining similar to each other in style. The techniques are simple but effective: using the same Instagram filter throughout or using a single touch of one color in each Instagram post. The results are fantastic!
Stylish looking accounts always get great engagement. Jacquemus is a French designer who is known for his stylized Instagram layouts.
